So ever since my breakdown in the TR7 late last year I’ve been experiencing different electrical related issues

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

It has now gotten to the point where I’ve decided that the original wiring is being removed and replaced with a new custom loom to hopefully get rid of all electrical gremlins, it’s a universal kit car kit but seems to have been designed for a GM based vehicle as the labelling on the wiring states things in American such as parking lights, turn signals etc. also has a couple GM connectors which wont be needed and will be discarded

Kinja'd!!!

There are a few circuits that are not needed and might be repurposed for something else such as power windows, central locking, basically any mod cons as they don’t exist in this car

wish me luck!

Wiring is the worst part of a vehicle. Biggest struggle of my Eagle project for sure. Good luck! New wires and connectors will be so nice.

The biggest struggle is working out what some of the bodged wires are doing in the car currently

Preaching to the choir. I ripped out all the old emissions “stuff”, the old ECU, and the old vacuum system and installed a fuel injection kit made for a Jeep CJ/YJ into my car. “Melding” the two harnesses, even with the shop manuals has been a “ treat ”. I think I got it all figured out except for the cruise control. Last week my alternator diode crapped out. That was a fun thing to chase around as it allowed power to flow both ways through the alternator essentially making any continuity test show positive, and while running allowed A/C current to flop around making any voltage test completely borked. Figured it out with kind of a hunch and by disconnecting the alternator for a day which stopped the battery from draining out.

Luckily I am an electrical engineer and wiring is the least of my worries about my project cars.

My suggestion is to overlay the new harness on top of the old one if possible. Don’t worry about dressing the wires in until you have everything working. Don’t get in a rush.
